Hi! I’m Kim…
Welcome to Sweet Spot Coaching!
My name is Kim Townsend and I am a multisport endurance coach specializing in triathlon and road running. I also partner with companies to create custom training programs for their employees that promote healthy and active lifestyles.
I had a unique path to discovering multisport racing and competitive running. I have been active since my mother put me in tap shoes when I was three years old. I danced throughout my entire childhood. I was not very competitive but I loved every minute of taking dance lessons and performing! I was involved heavily in academics and never participated in an organized sport growing up. I missed dancing when I began college so I started teaching group fitness classes that allowed me to mesh my love of choreography and music while continuing to maintain an active lifestyle. In 2009, a group of my friends and I decided to challenge ourselves by training for and competing in our local half marathon. I was immediately hooked! Within three months of finishing my first half marathon, I bought my first road bike. I finished my first sprint triathlon in 2010 and have not looked back! It has been a wild ride discovering my athletic side as an adult. I went from tap shoes and tutus to running BQ’s. I have learned so much along my journey and look forward to helping others of all abilities, grow and excel in the sport!

Coaching Philosophy
I believe that multisport training, first and foremost, should be enjoyable. More often than not, multisport training becomes a way of life and it is important to help each athlete find the balance between training, racing, careers, and family. As a career educator, I am experienced at adapting my teaching and coaching styles for individual learners and for various skill levels. Just as an educator, a coach must know the athlete and anticipate their needs and be willing to make modifications in order to help keep the athlete on track. As a biologist, I firmly believe in helping the athlete know the “why” behind each session and how the sessions will help them adapt physiologically. I am also a firm believer in quality over quantity and want to make sure that each athlete is getting the most bang for their buck during a training session. My primary objective when working with any athlete is to help them to reach their goals while maintaining flexibility that allows them to effectively train while balancing their careers and family life.
